ADULT VR porn industry !

Every time someone finds out that I have an Oculus Rift at home there’s two things I can count on. First, that they’re going to ask me if I get motion sick, and yes, I do. Second—and this happens without fail—that the person I’m talking to will make a joke about watching porn on it. It’s inevitable and I think it’s an inescapable truth of human sexuality that sooner or later every technological advancement will be used in a way that helps us get off.
In the case of the Oculus Rift, it's falling into the "sooner" category.

A complicated affair

Let’s start with the basics. In order to actually watch some adult entertainment with a VR twist you need some type of head-mounted display. That can be anything from the pricey Oculus Rift to the much more affordable Google Cardboard, but your experience will definitely hinge on how high-quality your device’s display happens to be as well as the quality of your, ahem, media. For this NSFW outing, I used the Oculus Rift DK2.
Cumbersome porn isn’t good porn.
Not surprisingly, there are only a few options right now for those seeking VR pornography, and they range from low-quality videos that were very clearly shot using hacked-together dual-lense recording equipment to super high-resolution movies that can be several gigabytes in size, each. In order to give myself the best chance of actually enjoying the digital sex I would participate in, I went all-out and dropped a few bucks on a trial membership to VirtualRealPorn (NSFW). This site offers its movies in resolutions as high as 3,000 by 1,500 and features positional head-tracking so you can look around and pretend you’re there, which is really the entire point. This brings us to the first drawback of VR sex: It’s really complicated. It’s not just you, your computer monitor, and a website—it’s you, your computer, your VR headset, about a half dozen cords, two extra programs, and a video that you downloaded instead of streamed. It’s a colossal pain and it’s something you have to actually work on preparing ahead of time, which isn’t how many people like to consume their porn.
To be fair, this was simply my experience using the Rift on a Windows computer, and if you’re using a smartphone VR headset with pre-configured apps, it could end up being much smoother. For me, however, it definitely wasn’t anything resembling smooth. Cumbersome porn isn’t good porn.

As far as the actual viewing experience goes, it’s exactly what you’d expect. It’s 3D of course, and while it’s slightly disorienting, looking around the scene is actually really cool, purely from a geeky standpoint. Almost everything in the VR porn market as it currently exists is shot in a POV style, where the camera that servers as your viewpoint is positioned on one of the participants heads for maximum immersion.
Are you a guy who wants to please a beautiful woman? Done. Are you a lady who wants her own Channing Tatum-esque dancer? No problem. You can even take on the role of another gender and explore your sexuality a bit—it’s a remarkably freeing experience no matter what you choose. Assuming your VR device has a reasonably high-resolution screen, it’s not difficult to suspend your disbelief and let your mind wander. And it can be thrilling.

Porn paranoia

Speaking of pleasure, lets talk about the next and perhaps most damning issue I’ve discovered about VR porn: It’s not a great masturbatory tool. Sorry to be blunt, but there it is. This probably goes against what you’d assume, given that I just got done talking about how the experience is fantastic, but there’s definitely a problem here and it all starts with the headset.
Using a head-mounted display means taking two of your most important senses and throwing them into a different realm. You eyes are transported to a virtual world via the headset and your ears—tucked snugly in a headset—follow along. You turn on your X-rated entertainment and your brain tells you your body is engaged, but in reality your body is sitting in front of your computer, and your hand is probably doing something that would mortify anyone who happens to wander by.

VirtualRealPorn
I don’t care who you are, there’s a fantastic chance you know the paralyzing fear that shoots up your spine when you’re watching a smidgen of erotica and you think you hear the door open, a creak from the stairway, or even a random footstep. That feeling is amplified to an insane degree when you can’t actually see or hear what is happening around you, and it’s not an experience that is conducive to self pleasure. If I lived alone, on my own island, and a plague had wiped out the rest of humanity, I’d be able to enjoy it to its fullest extent and with reckless abandon... but I don't.

The dirty truth

Listen, I love porn. Virtual reality is indeed a fantastic new evolution of adult entertainment, and in the right setting it’s exhilarating, titillating, and just plain cool, but at the moment it’s definitely a novelty. VR porn is definitely going somewhere, and this first tip-toe into what it's capable of is thrilling to say the least. While the technology is there, and the visuals are great, the entire experience is in beta. There are some very human things (i.e., sweaty foreheads from headsets, the terror of being walked in on) we're going to have to figure out before this becomes mainstream.
It’s not something I’d recommend investing in expensive electronics for, but if you already have the hardware, it’s definitely an experience you won’t forget.

WHY USE VIMEO ?!

Vimeo is to my mind one of the best video networks around because it has a high concentration of creative content providers.  It is not like on YouTube where if you type “art video” in the search box, you get loads of music clips or ” the art of making jam“- type videos.  On the contrary, on Vimeo you generally get what you ask and the quality is often better then on YouTube.  That said, there is good quality on YouTube as well, no doubt about that, but it is harder to find in between the thousands of junk videos.  As Vimeo is a much smaller network, good quality content gets a better chance and that is what I like about it. Like all networks, there are all sorts of subjects to be found.
I doubt Vimeo will remain small,  the first time I looked for art videos, I found about 2 pages, while 2 months later, it had risen to 39 pages, which is quite impressive.

What is the secret of Vimeo’s success?

There are many reasons why Vimeo is successful in banning out the majority of junk video, and attracting serious video publishers, but I’m only going to mention a couple of them:  One of them is that they do quality checks on the accounts.  Secondly, you need to have a paid subscription if you want post more then 5OOMB per week or upload more then 1 HD video weekly. This measure seems to scare off a lot of freeloaders, especially the sort that uploads clones from TV shows and music clips (although you will find them here and there).
You can buy the Plus subscription which is only $60 a year (-minus 5 cents) and the compression quality is better then the free account.
The third reason is that even with the paid subscription, it is not allowed to upload commercial videos.
Vimeo is about sharing good content, they do not want to delude the network by accepting product- or service presentations.  Blake Withman from Vimeo says: “Many people try to use Vimeo as a free hosting service for videos that relate to their business, when, in fact, they should be paying for such a service. However, we are not interested in that content because 99% of the time, those people (and videos) do not contribute to the community. If you have a business and you need video hosting, there are plenty of sites out there that will meet your needs, but Vimeo is not one of them. ”
I think he is right. Entrepreneurs have loads of options to chose from, including AudioAcrobat,PubClip, BitsOnTheRun, etc…and then there are the free networks: YouTube, VideoJug, MySpace, GoogleVideo, …
Playing the system, i.e.: using loopholes to push commercial messages is rather tricky business because one offending video is enough to close down the account forever.

Collaboration between members

Apart from groups, Vimeo also has a lively projects section where members collaborate in all sorts of concepts.  The groups also encourage collabaration between like minded souls.  Perhaps this is the reason why you find so many visual artists and creatives in this network.

Options and video compression

The video compression is very reasonable on Vimeo and with the paid subscription it is even better.
Supported video formats:
asf, asx, avi, divx, dv, dvx, m4v, mov, mp4, mpeg, mpg, qt, wmv, 3g2, 3gp, 3ivx and 3vx.
Vimeo recommends the following compression settings:
  • H.264 for the video codec (compression method). Choose AAC for the audio codec.
  • Frame rate: usually 29.97. Vimeo converts all HD videos only up to 25 frames per second in order to optimize playback performance.
  • Data rate: 1800 kbits/sec for standard definition 4:3 video , 2500 kbits/sec for widescreen DV, or 5000 kbits/sec for high definition. Making these numbers higher will increase both quality and size.
  • Size: 640×480 for standard definition 4:3 video, 872×480 for widescreen DV, or 1280×720 for high definition. It is also best to export 1920×1080 or 1440×1080 video as 1280×720 too.
  • Sound sample rate: 44.100 kHz
  • Audio quality: bit rate of 128 kbps.
I have nothing to add to those recommendations, they are just fine as they are. In fact, they are higher then I ever hoped from a video network

The interface

The interface is clean and easy to understand and there are video tutorials to help you on your way.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY ON YOUTUBE

I found these very very good ideas on net, let's check it ! # you can check reactions too;]
A couple of days ago I wrote a post talking about some British parents who published a 57-second video of their children on YouTube and ended up making over $150,000 from that video alone.
Most people who left a comment wanted to get more information on how to make money on YouTube, so I decided to write a follow-up post about it.
In a nutshell you make money on YouTube by becoming a YouTube partner, which allows you to display ads on your videos, and then you earn a percentage of the revenues generated by clicks on those ads, much like with AdSense. As for how much money you can actually make, I heard numbers anywhere from $3 up to $10 per 1,000 video views.
However, the process of becoming a YouTube partner is not as trivial as becoming an AdSense publisher. Below you’ll find the basic steps you need to go through:

1. Make Sure You Have an AdSense Account

While the process to be able to display ads on your YouTube videos is a separate one, your earnings and stats will go together with your AdSense account, so you need to have one.
In theory you could apply to become a YouTube partner before having an AdSense account, and in case you get accepted you would then follow up with an AdSense application. I believe the other way around is much simpler, though.

2. Grow Your Audience on YouTube

One of the most important criteria the YouTube guys will use to evaluate your application is the audience you reach on YouTube. They don’t reveal what are the requirements, but I’ve seen many people say these are the ballpark numbers you need to have before getting accepted:
  • at least 1,000 subscribers
  • at least 1,000 views on all your videos
  • at least 10,000 channel views
These are the very minimum though, if you want to make sure you’ll get accepted I would aim for 5,000 subscribers, 50,000 channel views and over 1,000,000 upload views total.

3. Get Videos Out There Regularly

If you only have one or two videos uploaded your chances of getting accepted are low, even if those videos went viral. That’s because YouTube is looking for people who are planning to work with them over the long term.
The more regularly and frequently you upload new videos, the better. For instance, someone who uploads a new video every day will have a better chance of getting accepted than someone who uploads one every couple of weeks.
You also want to make sure you have at least 100 uploaded videos before applying to become a partner (though some people say 50 will be enough).

4. Develop A Brand Around Your Videos

This step is not essential, but I think it helps a lot on getting approve. You need to remember that, once you meet the technical guidelines, it will be a person on the other site deciding on whether you are a good fit for becoming a YouTube Partner or not. In other words, the more professional you look the higher your chances.
Practical tips include:
  • Create a website to host your videos and give your audience more wayts to interact
  • Create a nice logo and use it everywhere
  • Use a watermark on your videos with your logo
  • Consider getting a professional intro made for your videos
  • Customize your YouTube channel to make it look professional

5. Make Sure Your Content Has Zero Copyrighted Material

If there’s one thing that will get your application rejected on the spot is copyright infringement, so make sure you have zero copyrighted material on your videos.
This includes images, graphics, logos, video clips and audio. For instance, even just using a music on the background which you don’t have permission to could get your application rejected.

6. Apply to Become a YouTube Partner

After you followed all the previous steps you are ready to apply. You can do that via the official YouTube Partner Program page. It might take a while to get your application considered due to the load of people applying, but once you get accepted you’ll be able to start displaying ads on your videos right away.
Good luck!

Well said Daniel,This information is more enough to get started with Youtube ads. Thanks lot.

I don’t see how these people are making so much money. I have one youtube account that gets tens of thousands of views per month. To date it has 3,207,993. All videos are quality, not junk with excellent ratings. But we make anywhere from $1.50 – $3 per day.
Clickthroughs are ridiculously low compared to regular adsense ads on the regular website for this account.
I still like youtube because many of my videos have a PR 3 linking back to my site.
May it depends what niche you are in? Maybe you need to be in the entertainment area?

I think the requirements to get into Youtube partner program are not so stringent. I just have my Youtube account in the same google account as my adsense and I was approved for the partner program inspite of having only 35 videos or so. Youtube has an excellent online video manager/editor and they even have some copyright free songs that we can use in the background. I guess their video processing algorithms are too good. They can turn an average video (on my harddisk) into a decent video (online) after uploading. The only issue here is bandwidth. I find it difficult to upload HD videos.
I have not yet joined in the partner program because I feel my channel needs more videos. And I am not very convinced about how many people might click on the video, while watching it? Some videos play an ad before someone is allowed to watch the video. I feel that is better. I guess they’ll optimize the ad platform for video soon. They are good at it!

I am a travel writer based in San Francisco specializing in “Things to See and Do” discovered during my travels. I have uploaded 143 videos that I post on YouTube and eventually embed in blog posts on my “What a Trip” blog.
It’s usually my obscure videos like “Things to Do in Graham, Texas” or “Jurassic Park Helicopter Tour Kauai, Hawaii” that get big views.
I’m still waiting for the “big” paycheck. Thank you for the tips.

One issue I am very curious about is the “Copyright infringement” side of it.
I mean how do Google(Or whoever) monitor this? As there seems to be so many you tube videos loaded with material(audio–visual) that would have to be copyrighted.
Is the practice of throwing in some attributions at the end of the video sufficient to avoid legal ramifications?
  7. Ruth Barringham on March 21, 2012 7:02 pm
This article was very helpful. I always wondered how people make money on YouTube and who gets the money from the ads.
$150,000 is not to be sneezed at (if it’s true) but your commenter, Insurance Leads Guy, says he gets over 3 million views and yet only makes $3/day. But still that adds up to over $1,000/year in residual income which isn’t bad if it’s just a bonus amount from videos you uploaded anyway. But not much if you are trying to earn a decent income from it.
But still this is all good information. Too many articles I read online talk about how much money you can earn from doing something, but don’t actually give you the nuts and bolts of how to do it.
    So thanks.
  8. jorge jacobo on March 23, 2012 5:23 am
My experience with videos is not of a partner but of individual videos approved for monetization.
So far (this is my experience) I have about 99 videos all in Spanish many of them monetized they give me about 5 dollars a month. Which I don’t mind.
The problem with my videos is that I don’t get views.
I also have about 45 subscribers, but I am working on it.
And the things about Copyright it’s all true. Youtube doesn’t like them.
    For example,
If You put a song in the background (copyrighted) best case, it will display ads for the artist instead of your ads.
  9. kalyan on March 23, 2012 9:53 am
Great info Daniel. This will help us understand how it works. Though it’s a bit tougher than getting approved for an adsense account but worth a try. Who knows anyway can make good money from a video. New type of earning money on Internet. Thanks for sharing. Bookmarked the page.
  10. Jim Collier on March 23, 2012 11:47 am
Thanks for the post. You laid out in concise fashion just exactly what is required to make money on Youtube.
As a side note, Es said: “YouTube has an excellent online video manager/editor and they even have some copyright free songs that we can use in the background.”
Just a word of caution, using their music may restrict earnings. I would advise careful study of the TOS.
  11. David on March 26, 2012 5:44 am
Like Jorge Jacobo said, you canalso become a partner for video only, not channel.
I believe it’s a good way to start, but people should keep in mind to NEVER, ever upload copyrighted stuff.

Ghost towns

KOLMANSKOP (Namibia): Buried in sand

Kolmanskop is a ghost town in southern Namibia, a few kilometres inland from the port of Lüderitz. In 1908, Luederitz was plunged into diamond fever and people rushed into the Namib desert hoping to make an easy fortune. Within two years, a town, complete with a casino, school, hospital and exclusive residential buildings, was established in the barren sandydesert. But shortly after the drop in diamond sales after the First World War, the beginning of the end started. During the 1950's the town was deserted and the dunes began to reclaim what was always theirs.

Soon the metal screens collapsed and the pretty gardens and tidy streets were buried under the sand. Doors and windows creaked on their hinges, cracked window panes stared sightlessly across the desert. A new ghost town had been born.

A couple of old buildings are still standing and some interiors like the theatre is still in very good condition, but the rest are crumbling ruins demolished from grandeur to ghost houses.

PRYPIAT (Ukraine): Chernobyl workers' home

Prypiat is an abandoned city in the "zone of alienation" in northern Ukraine. It was home to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant workers, abandoned in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster. Its population had been around 50,000 prior to the accident.

Until recently, the site was practically a museum, documenting the late Soviet era. Apartment buildings (four of which were recent constructions not yet occupied), swimming pools, hospitals and other buildings were all abandoned, and everything inside the buildings was left behind, including records, papers, TVs, children's toys, furniture, valuables, and clothing, etc. that any normal family would have with them. Residents were only allowed to take away a suitcase full of documents, books and clothes that were not contaminated. However, many of the apartment buildings were almost completely looted some time around the beginning of the 21st century.[citation needed] Nothing of value was left behind; even toilet seats were taken away. Some buildings have remained untouched. Many of the building interiors have been vandalized and ransacked over the years. Because the buildings are not maintained, the roofs leak, and in the spring the rooms are flooded with water. It is not unusual to find trees growing on roofs and even inside buildings. This hastens deterioration, and due to this, a 4-story school partially collapsed in July of 2005.

SAN ZHI (Taiwan): a futuristic resort
in the North of Taiwan, this futuristic pod village was initially built as aluxury vacation retreat for the rich. However, after numerous fatal accidents during construction, production was halted. A combination of lack of money and lack of willingness meant that work was stopped permanently, and the alien like structures remain as if in remembrance of those lost. Indeed, rumors in the surrounding area suggest that the City is now haunted by the ghosts of those who died.

After this the whole thing received the cover-up treatment. And the Government, who commissioned the site in the first place was keen to distance itself from the bizarre happenings. Thanks to this, there are no named architects. The project may never be restarted thanks to the growing legend, and there would be no value in re-developing the area for other purpose. Maybe simply because destroying homes of lonely spirits is a bad thing to do. San Zhi can also be seen from an aeriel view here.

CRACO (Italy): a fascinating medieval town

Craco is located in the Region of Basilicata and the Province of Matera. About 25 miles inland from the Gulf of Taranto at the instep of the “boot” of Italy. This medieval town is typical of those in the area, built up with long undulating hills all around that allow for the farming of wheat and other crops. Craco can be dated back to 1060 when the land was in the ownership of Archbishop Arnaldo, Bishop of Tricarico. This long-standing relationshop with the Church had much influence over the inhabitants throughout the ages.

In 1891, the population of Craco stood at well over 2,000 people. Though there had been many problems, with poor agricultural conditions creating desperate times. Between 1892 and 1922 over 1,300 people moved from the town to North America. Poor farming was added to by earthquakes, landslides, and War - all of which contributed to this mass migration. Between 1959 and 1972 Craco was plagued by these landslides and quakes. In 1963 the remaining 1,800 inhabitants were transferred to a nearby valley called Craco Peschiera, and the original Craco remains in a state of crumbling decay to this day.

ORADOUR-SUR-GLANE (France): the horror of WWII

The small village of Oradour-sur-Glane, France, is the setting of unspeakable horror. During World War II, 642 residents were massacred by German soldiers as punishment for the French Resistance. The Germans had initially intended to target nearby Oradour-sur-Vayres and mistakenly invaded Oradour-sur-Glane on June 10th 1944. According to a survivor’s account, the men were herded into barns where they were shot in the legs so they would die more slowly. The women and children, who had been held in a church, all perished when their attempt to escape was met by machine-gun fire. The village was razed by the Germans afterward. Its ruins still stand today as a memorial to the dead and a reminder of the events that took place.

GUNKANJIMA (Japan): the forbidden island

This island is one among 505 uninhabited islands in the Nagasaki Prefecture of Japan about 15 kilometers from Nagasaki itself. It is also known as "Gunkan-jima" or Battleship Island thanks to its high sea walls. It began in 1890 when a company called Mitsubishi bought the island and began a project to retrieve coal from the bottom of the sea. This attracted much attention, and in 1916 they were forced to build Japan’s first large concrete building on the island. A block of apartments that would both accommodate the seas of workers and protect them from hurricanes.
In 1959, population had swelled, and boasted a density of 835 people per hectare for the whole island (1,391 per hectare for the residential district) - one of the highest population densities ever recorded worldwide. As petroleum replaced coal in Japan in the 1960’s, coal mines began shutting down all over the country, and Hashima’s mines were no exception. In 1974Mitsubishi officially announced the closing of the mine, and today it is empty and bare, with travel currently prohibited. The island was the location for the 2003 film ‘Battle Royale II’ and inspired the final level of popular Asian videogame "Killer7".

KADYKCHAN (Russia): memories of the Soviet Union

Kadykchan was one of many small Russian cities that fell into ruin when the Soviet Union collapsed. Residents were forced to move to gain access to services like running water, schools and medical care. The state moved them out over a period of two weeks, and they were taken to other towns and provided with new housing. Once a tin mining town of 12,000 people, the city is now desolate. In their hurry to leave, residents left their belongings behind in their homes, so you can now find aging toys, books, clothing and other objects throughout the empty city.

KOWLOON WALLED CITY (China): A lawless city
The Kowloon Walled City was located just outside Hong Kong, China during British rule. A former watchpost to protect the area against pirates, it was occupied by Japan during World War II and subsequently taken over by squatters after Japan’s surrender. Neither Britain nor China wanted responsibility for it, so it became its own lawless city.

Its population flourished for decades, with residents building labyrinthine corridors above the street level, which was clogged with trash. The buildings grew so tall that sunlight couldn’t reach the bottom levels and the entire city had to be illuminated with fluorescent lights. It was a place where brothels, casinos, opium dens, cocaine parlors, food courts serving dog meat and secret factories ran unmolested by authorities. It was finally torn down in 1993 after a mutual decision was made by British and Chinese authorities, who had finally grown wary of the unsanitary, anarchic city and its out-of-control population.

FAMAGUSTA (Cyprus): once a top tourist destination, now a ghost town

Varosha is a settlement in the unrecognised Republic of Northern Cyprus. Prior to the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, it was the modern tourist area of the city of Famagusta. For the last three decades, it has been left as a ghost town. In the 1970s, the city was the number one tourist destination in Cyprus. To cater to the increasing number of tourists, many new high-rise buildings and hotels were constructed.

When the Turkish Army gained control of the area during the war, they fenced it off and have since refused admittance to anyone except Turkish military and United Nations personnel. The Annan Plan had provided for the return of Varosha to Greek Cypriot control, but this never happened, as the plan was rejected by Greek Cypriot voters. As no repairs have been carried out for 34 years, all of the buildings are slowly falling apart. Nature is reclaiming the area, as metal corrodes, windows break, and plants work their roots into the walls and pavements. Sea turtles have been seen nesting on the deserted beaches.

By 2010, the Turkish Cypriot administration of the de-facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus plan to reopen Varosha to tourism and the city will be populated as one of the most influential cities in the north of the island.

AGDAM (Azerbaijan): once a 150,000 city of people, now lost

The eerie city of Agdam, Azerbaijan was once a thriving city of 150,000 people. It was lost in 1993 during the Nagorno Karabakh war; though the city was never the setting of combat, it fell victim to vandalism while occupied by Armenians. The buildings are gutted and empty, with only the graffiti-covered mosque remaining intact. Agdam residents have moved to other areas of Azerbaijan, as well as into Iran.
